Two teenagers attacked with acid in Zanzibar were yesterday said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Friends Katie Gee and Kirstie Trup, both 18, are being treated in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London for burns inflicted in an unprovoked attack.

Family are said to be keeping a bedside vigil.

Andy Williams, consultant burns and plastic surgeon, said their injuries were still being assessed.

Gee reportedly suffered more severe injuries, as people used dirty water as they tried to help her.

Police in Zanzibar said five men are being questioned.
