A GREAT-grandmother slashed in the face in a machete attack has spoken about her ordeal, saying she thought she would drown in her own blood.

Mary Coulter, 76, was left with broken arms, head injuries and deep cuts to her face after an assault by Derek Clark, 32, in March.

Clark had come to her home in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, with two accomplices, Richard Parvin, 29 and Darryl Finnie, 27, to look for her son Ronnie Coulter, who Clark claimed was terrorising his family.

Clark, who had taken cocaine before the attack, then battered the grandmother of 12, slashed her face and left her for dead.

Ms Coulter said: "I thought I was dead. I remember thinking, 'This is how you are going to go, on your own doorstep, drowning in your own blood'."

Clark, from Ashgill, South Lanarkshire, was jailed for 15 years for the attempted murder of Mrs Coulter and a separate assault on Grant Murdoch, who was tortured before being dumped in woods.

Parvin and Finnie were charged with conspiring to injure Ronnie Coulter, 43.
