An Edinburgh project which brings together more than 150 elderly and young people for a range of activities has been named overall winner at the National Youth Worker of the Year Awards 2012.

The two-year-old New Spin Project was given the Youth Worker of the Year (Intergenerational) award, as well as the overall prize – the first time the top award has gone to a team rather than an individual.

The Awards, organised by YouthLink Scotland, took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow last night. A total of 15 winners were named in categories including uniformed organisations, volunteer of the year and team of the year, and the event was attended by Minister for Children Aileen Campbell.

Commenting on the awards, Jim Sweeney, chief executive of YouthLink Scotland, said: "All of the finalists and winners have shown a truly outstanding commitment to innovative youth work that helps to improve the lives of young people in Scotland and the communities that they live in."
