Ayr United striker Michael Moffat has been issued with a notice of complaint by the Scottish Football Association for allegedly betting on his own team.

The 29-year-old allegedly placed seven bets on six football matches for the Honest Men to win.

He is also alleged to have placed wagers on a further 150 football matches in which he wasn't involved as a player.

The alleged incidents took place between February 2012 and September 2013.

Earlier this year, Rangers player Ian Black, received a ten-match ban, which included seven suspended, and was fined £7,500 for betting three times on his own team not to win.

He also placed ten bets on matches involving his team, in addition to a censure for gambling on a further 147 matches with which he had no direct involvement.

The player has until Christmas Eve to respond although he will be free to continue playing until January 16, when the main hearing takes place.

The footballing authority said there is no evidence to suggest any breach of Disciplinary Rule 34 on match fixing.

United chairman Lachlan Cameron said: He's only doing what 95% of the league is doing."
