IT sounds like the holiday of a lifetime - 71 nations from the Maldives to Dubai in just over six months.

But a few lucky photojournalists will be paid to take the trip as they follow the Queen's Baton Relay across the globe in the run-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Applications are being sought from photographers keen to chart the story of the baton - the Commonwealth Games equivalent of the Olympic torch - from the time it arrives in India in October through to its subsequent travels. It will pass through the Indian Ocean, the Far East, Australia, the South Pacific, Africa, the Caribbean, Canada and Dubai, where it is scheduled to arrive in May next year.

Organisers are looking to appoint "two or more" photojournalists.

Anyone interested has until 12pm on Monday September 16 and successful applicants must be ready to start on October 1. The baton will leave Glasgow on October 9 following a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 chief executive, said it would be "an adventure of a lifetime".
