American rock band Kings of Leon are to play their only gig in Scotland this year when they headline a major show at Glasgow's Bellahouston Park.

The band are the second act to be announced for the new music festival for the city, Summer Sessions.

Rapper Eminem is to perform in the park on August 20, a gig which has already sold out its 35,000 tickets.

The gigs are being organised by DF Concerts, the creator of the T in the Park festival.

Tickets for the Kings of Leon show, on August 15, will go on sale at 9am on April 19.

Kings of Leon, who are best known for their single Sex on Fire, have sold over 11 million albums world-wide and have won four Grammys and two Brit Awards.

The Summer Sessions look set to be a major new series of outdoor concerts in Glasgow, with three to five concerts a year held over 10 days every August.

There are likely to be three major concerts this year in Bellahouston Park, each with a series of supporting acts.

Organisers are hoping for a festival atmosphere with "quality food and drink" on hand.

Geoff Ellis, chief executive of DF Concerts, said: "Kings of Leon really need no introduction – they are a phenomenal live act.

"Their sold-out concert at Murrayfield in June 2011 was incredible and their Bellahouston show promises to be just as special."
