ACTOR Billy Boyd has revealed he is writing a comedy movie set in Glasgow, because he's fed up that the city is always portrayed as "dark".

Boyd, who starred as hobbit Pippin in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, said he was "annoyed" that his home city is so often portrayed negatively.

The actor, whose own screen career started with an appearance in Glasgow's gritty cop series Taggart, said his own script would show the city's "humour and positivity".

He said: "There's a script that I'm writing just now, a feature that I'm hoping to do. I've been writing for quite a while and there is a story I'm very excited about.

"It's a Glasgow story. Although it's not a musical it has a lot of music in it. A lot of it revolves around a music studio in Glasgow.

"Sometimes I get slightly annoyed that Glasgow is always seen as a very dark place with very dark stories.

"There's a lot of humour and a lot of positivity in Glasgow that I was wanting to show in this script."

Boyd, 46, who has been working on his script in the US, is also releasing a third album, The World of Things, with his band Beecake.

And he hopes the "more radio-friendly" songs will prove a hit after the band failed to publicise their previous two recordings.

He said: "It's probably been 10 years and this is the third album, and we've never really publicised anything. We get really excited about making music and making an album, and then we sort of forget to publicise it.

"Maybe I go and do a job or something happens and we sort of leave it. This time we were so excited about this album."

He added: "This time we were much more in the forefront of our minds trying to make something that was a bit more radio friendly.

"There's a lot less songs that are like seven minutes long with huge guitar solos.

"It's almost perverse how underground we are."
