Bishop's booby-trap claim

THE Bishop of Motherwell, Joseph Toal, leaves Hamilton Sheriff Court after claiming a priest facing eviction booby-trapped a parish house.

Bishop Toal told the civil hearing that Father Matthew Despard refused to quit the property at St John Ogilvie RC Church in High Blantyre, South Lanarkshire.

He claimed a device hidden near a door let out liquid or powder that would fall on anyone who opened the door. The hearing continues.
