A major fire has engulfed several flats at a high rise in north Glasgow.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from the burning building in Charles Street.

Several fire engines were at the scene from 5:30pm.

It is unclear whether anyone has been injured in the incident which firefighters are battling to put out.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it received the first of several calls to the report of a fire at Charles Street in the Springburn area of Glasgow.
Fire appliance from Springburn and Cowcaddens fire stations were mobilised to the incident and were in attendance at 17.36 hours.
The crews arrived at the incident to find a fire in a multi storey block of flats.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using water jets are currently conducting a search of the building.
Five fire appliances and several specialist fire appliances with a total of approximately 40 firefighters are currently dealing the incident. There are no reports of injuries at this time and there is no further information available at this time.
