OFFICIALS hope to trace the owner of a wedding dress store that closed suddenly, leaving a number of brides-to-be without their gowns.

The Bridal Studio, in Glasgow's Merchant City, owned by businesswoman Karen Boyd, of Blantyre, stopped trading on Thursday.

One member of staff claimed employees have been left devastated after being informed of the shop closure on Wednesday night by text message.

The staff member said wages had not been paid.

Trading standards officers are now trying to trace Ms Boyd for more information about the business.

The Herald was unable to reach her to confirm the claims, although The Bridal Studio released a statement saying it was forced to shut due to a downturn in the bridal and retail industry.

Brian Aitken, whose daughter Lynsey, 25, is being married on August 3, said the family had traced her dress to a warehouse in Hong Kong. The family now has to spend hundreds of pounds to have it shipped over, even though they have already paid for it.

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council's Trading Standards team said it was investigating complaints.

"Our advice for anyone who is concerned about an order is to register a complaint via Consumer Direct."
