SINGER Susan Boyle joined charity collectors on a busy shopping street in a bid to boost this year's Scottish Poppy Appeal before the fundraising campaign ends next week.

The Britain's Got Talent star is a strong supporter of Poppyscotland as she has family connections to the military. Her father served with the Royal Engineers in the Second World War and one of her grandfathers was killed in the First World War.

She was out with collectors on Buchanan Street in Glasgow yesterday and said: "The poppy appeal is very special to me so I am delighted to be helping again and meeting the collectors who do a fantastic job.

"I hope people across Scotland will give as much as they can when they see a poppy tin over the next few days to ensure veterans and their families get the support they need and deserve."
