A MAN was seriously injured after a car mounted the pavement and struck him as he stood with his son in an apparent hit-and-run.

The 44-year-old father was rushed to hospital after being hit by the car outside a hotel in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire.

Police said the car failed to stop after the crash and drove off towards the town centre. Officers said they had no information to suggest the victim was ­deliberately targeted.

The man was with his 21-year-old son at 4pm on Saturday when the dark-coloured Peugeot 407 struck him. He was taken to ­Hairmyres Hospital and was receiving treatment for a serious leg injuries. His son was not injured.

Police are appealing for information. Sergeant Derek Callan from East Kilbride Police Office said: "This man received significant leg injuries and is awaiting surgery."
