Helen Vincent of the National Library of Scotland holds the original manuscript of Sir Walter Scott's classic Waverley, which has gone on display 200 years after it was first published.

The book set around the 1745 Jacobite Rising, was the world's first historical novel and the first in a series of global bestsellers by Scott. The first edition of 1000 copies sold out within two days of publication on July 7, 1814, and the manuscript has gone on show at the NLS for the first time in more than 20 years to celebrate the literary landmark.
