Scotland's forgotten motor-racing circuit is to re-open after a gap of 20 years with a three-day festival of cars.

Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and Stirling Moss were among the famous names that once battled for victory at the tight and twisty Ingliston Racing Circuit based at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh.

Now celebrities and cars are to bring the1.03 mile circuit back to life at a revival meeting to mark the 50th anniversary from September 11-13.

Ben Collins, formerly the test driver known as The Stig from the BBC's Top Gear and the corporation's Formula One pitlane reporter Lee McKenzie are among the guests being lined up for the Ingliston Revival.

More than 300 classic and prestige sportscars, manufacturers from top

motoring brands including McLaren and a host of public entertainment including Range Rover rides.

The public are invited to get in on the action by taking a Ferrari or Lamborghini round the original track, which has received a six-figure improvement programme. There will also be stunt displays and a prosecco bar.

Ingliston opened in 1965 and quickly proved a challenge for some of the sport's biggest names.

The track hosted a milk float race in its opening year between Clark and Stewart.

By 1994, the circuit had no longer become financially viable and it departed Scottish motor sport scene leaving Knockhill in Fife as the only race track.

The original track layout was kept although the armco was taken down.

Event director Sandy Bloomer said 'The eagerly anticipated Ingliston Revival is an unparalleled opportunity for Ingliston veterans to relive the memories of Scotland's original circuit and we welcome a new generation to come and witness the thrills of motoring at this evocative venue.

"We look forward to presenting Scottish names from the world of motorsport... and a wealth of other drivers and names at the event."
