Citizens sells tickets for 50p

One of Scotland's best known theatres is bringing back its famous 50p ticket scheme.

The Citizens Theatre in Glasgow's Gorbals is releasing tickets for 50p for 300 seats for its new productions Medea, Glasgow Girls and Takin' Over the Asylum.

The first 50p ticket sale of the season will be launched on Saturday at 10am for the Greek tragedy Medea.

All tickets must be bought in person at the Citizens box office, cash only, maximum of two tickets per person and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Citizens Theatre directorship of Giles Havergal, Phillip Prowse and Robert David McDonald introduced in 1976 a new 50p ticket price.

In 1976, the average weekly wage for a man was £70 and £45.30 for a woman. A loaf was 19.2p and a pint of beer 32p.
