IT is one of the nation's best-loved Christmas hymns - and it may have a particular resonance for the men lending their voices to an upcoming performance.

Dozens of Davids from across Scotland are to form a mass carol choir to perform Once In Royal David's City at an event in Aberdeen tomorrow.

More than 120 Davids turned up last year for the event, which marks the start of the Granite City's winter festival, and organiser VisitAberdeen hope they can attract even more Davids, Daves and Davies this year.

The tourism body's chief executive, Steve Harris, said: "We were delighted with the turnout last year, but we're convinced that we can do better.

"We have been appealing to Davids to join in for the last few weeks, and the response has been fantastic.

"We have even seen some activity from famous Davids, with the likes of The Kinks' Dave Davies and CSI Miami's David Caruso following our updates on Twitter."

Dulcet Davids bearing photographic ID are being asked to join the choir in the city's Castlegate area at 3pm.
