Two leading LibDem councillors in the Highlands have failed to be elected to the new Crofting Commission, in the first ever elections to the industry's regulatory body.

There were five candidates in the south-west Highlands area which was won by the last crofter on the island of Coll, Colin Kennedy.

He beat both Dr Michael Foxley, leader of Highland Council and councillor for Ardnamurchan, and Islay councillor Robin Currie, who is Argyll and Bute Council's spokesman for Rural and Island Affairs, Housing and Gaelic.

Kathleen Sinclair, the grazing clerk for the Scousburgh common grazing for the past 13 years, will represent Shetland.
