Drinks giant Diageo has been fined £18,000 after two workers were injured in falls at two sites in Moray.

Robert Edward, 51, fell nearly 12 feet from a portable ladder while clearing a blockage in a grain silo at Burghead Maltings on New Year's Day 2012.

He was found unconscious by another worker and taken to hospital with concussion, a cut to his head and a dislocated finger. Peter Douglas, 43, slipped and fell more than six feet to the ground in March 2012 at another plant in Elgin. He suffered a minor brain injury.

At Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday, Diageo admitted to failings following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive, whose principal inspector Niall Miller, said the incidents could have been fatal.
