A dog has been rescued by lifeboat volunteers after the family pet broke a leg in a 30-feet fall on to a rocky beach.

Stan, an English bull terrier, plunged on to the shores of Loch Ness while out on a walk with his owner Ricky Simpson.

Mr Simpson, who was on holiday in the area, scrambled down the slope to go to the dog's aid while his partner called the Coastguard at about 10am on Wednesday.

The Drumnadrochit-based RNLI crew then went to the scene and were able to get them on board a lifeboat to take them both to Foyers pier.

The "much-loved" family dog was taken to vets in Inverness for treatment to a broken back leg and suspected internal injuries.
