Driver killed, two in hospital after head-on crash in East Ayrshire

A driver has died and two people remain in hospital after a head-on crash on a rural road.

The accident happened on the A719 near Waterside, East Ayrshire, at around 3.30pm yesterday and involved a Suzuki Jimny and a Fiat Punto.

The 54-year-old man driving the Suzuki died at the scene of the crash and his 51-year-old female passenger was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where she is said to be in a stable condition.

The 18-year-old driver of the Punto was also taken to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact them on the non-emergency 101 number.
