MOTORISTS in Glasgow are being warned to take extra care on Friday morning during the solar eclipse.

During rush-hour, up to 90% of the sun will be blocked by the moon.

Road bosses said visibility will be reduced and urged driver to be aware.

A Traffic Scotland statement read: "Partial Solar Eclipse takes place this Friday from 9.30am across Scotland, so reduced visibility.

"Be seen. StaySafe."

The rare astronomical alignment will see the moon pass directly between the sun and the earth, blocking out most of the light between 8.30am and 10.42am, reaching its peak around 9.34am.

Northern Scotland will have the best view of the partial eclipse with the likes of Shetland and Orkney seeing almost 98% of the sun covered.

Glasgow is likely to experience at least 94%.
