The Duke of Edinburgh has joined the Queen at church in his first public appearance since being discharged from hospital a week ago.

Philip, 91, was driven to Crathie Kirk in Royal Deeside close to the monarch's Balmoral residence on Deeside.

He was treated at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for five nights for a recurrence of a bladder infection, but was released last Monday.

In June he went to hospital with a bladder infection the day after braving cold, wet and windy conditions on the royal barge for several hours at the Diamond Jubilee pageant on the River Thames.

He spent five nights in London's King Edward VII Hospital and missed some key celebrations of a bank holiday weekend marking the Queen's 60-year reign.
