A TEAM of volunteers who would help residents in the event of an emergency has been set up in a Scottish town.

A total of 58 people have volunteered to join Largs Community Resilience Team, which will be mobilised if the town is hit by blizzards, floods or other emergencies.

Representatives from the police, ambulance, fire and rescue, coastguard, RNLI and North Ayrshire Council will attend the launch event, organised by Largs Community Council.

The council's secretary, George Douglas, a former police commander in Glasgow and Inverclyde, led the appeal for volunteers.

North Ayrshire Council, Kelburn Windfarm Community Trust, SSE Hunterston Community Fund and Scottish Resilience have each given £1,000 to the project.
