CHRIS Evans has told how he has been banned for life from a Scots celebrity golf tournament which he won last year.

The Radio 2 breakfast DJ said he had been told by organisers of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship that he would never be welcomed back.

The competition is played annually over the Old Course at St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie and the highly-regarded Kingsbarns Golf Links.

Its sees professional golfers team up with amateurs, and celebrities who have taken part in the past include Michael Douglas, Hugh Grant and Samuel L Jackson.

Evans, 46, and playing partner Nick Dougherty won the team trophy last year with an impressive score of 40 under par.

He refused to go into details about the reasons for his ban but appeared to point the finger at a disgruntled opposing player.

He said: "Sadly I will not be defending my title this year. Why? It transpires I've been barred for life."

He told how he is now con-sidering setting up a rival competition with his golfing and celebrity pals. He said: "I think I'll call it the Dung Hill Cup."

Yesterday, Evans still featured prominently on the tournament's website talking about his victory last year.

A spokesman for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship refused to comment.
