THE son of one of Scotland's best known businessmen has died suddenly at the age of 50.

Michael Baxter was a former director of the Baxters food empire but left the firm 13 years ago to set up his own food consultancy.

He was the son of Gordon and Ena Baxter, who helped turn the Fochabers business into a global brand.

His 95-year-old father, who was awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in 2010, died in February.

A spokesman for the Baxter family said: "The Baxter family is deeply saddened to confirm the sudden death of Michael Baxter, aged 50, on Monday, September 30. There will be a private funeral and the family would request for a period of privacy and respect to be observed at this time."

Mr Baxter worked as the managing consultant of catering consultancy Quest Food Service. He used his experience in the industry to advise the hospitality sector on the best ways to run their business. The company focused on menu and recipe development, kitchen designs and staff training.
