Born in Belgium, Bradley Wiggins moved to London in 1982, aged two, after his mother Linda split from his Australian father Gary, himself a top-level cyclist.

Wiggins' future aspirations of cycling greatness became apparent that Christmas when he demanded the stabilisers be removed from his brand-new bike.

A poster of five-time Tour de France champion Miguel Indurain adorned his boyhood bedroom wall, but Wiggins only began to race seriously after watching Chris Boardman take gold at the 1992 Olympic Games.

Having worked his way up the international ranks, winning six Olympic medals by 2008, he then switched his focus from track to road – and the Tour de France.

Key victories: Two-time Criterium du Dauphine winner (2011, 2012); 2012 winner Paris–Nice; 2012 winner Tour de Romandie; British national time trial champion (2009, 2010); British national road race champion (2011); three-times Olympic gold medallist on the track.
