THE family of a teenage murder victim whose aunt was killed in the same town 25 years ago paid tribute to a "loving" and "happy-go-lucky" young man.

Jack Doyle, 17, was found stabbed to death at a communal drying area near Antigua Street in Greenock at 9.45am on Tuesday – just one-and-a-half miles from the spot where his aunt Elaine Doyle, 16, was found strangled in June 1986. Her murder remains unsolved.

In a statement issued by police last night, his family said: "Jack was a happy-go-lucky sort of boy. Really quiet and kept himself to himself.

"He was always around his brothers and sisters and doted on his nephews. He was so loving and didn't have a bad bone in his body. He would rather stay in with family or friends than go out. You couldn't meet a more genuine boy.

"He will always be loved and missed by his family and friends. His mum, dad and brothers and sisters are devastated this has happened in such a cruel way to such a lovely boy."

Shocked friends also paid their respects on Facebook.

One friend wrote: "RIP Jack, RIP Elaine. Let's hope the Doyle family get justice for both young Jack and Elaine very soon."

Detectives, who say there is no evidence of a link between the two deaths, are continuing their inquiries.
