POLICE are continuing to appeal for information about the murder of a father-of-five two weeks ago.

John McMurchie, 50, from Errol, Perthshire, was attacked in Dundee's Fintry Terrace in the early hours of August 12.

More than 50 officers from Tayside police have now been assigned to the investigation, with specialist units combing the surrounding areas for evidence.

The police officer leading the inquiry, Detective Inspector Bobby Dow, said the force was determined to secure justice for Mr McMurchie, who died from a single fatal stab wound to the heart.

DI Dow said: "The inquiry team has in excess of 20 searchers, which goes up to 30 when you include the forensic team.

"We also have more than 20 people working as part of the inquiry team and in support functions, so over 50 in total.

"We will use whoever is available and is best placed to do certain jobs across the whole force area, not just Dundee.

"We are very determined to bring whoever did this to justice."

Mr McMurchie, a car showroom night watchman, had been on a night out with friends in the Fintry area on August 11 before he headed to a house party in Murrayfield Gardens.

He left the property at around 3.30am and was found lying in the street by two passers-by around half-an-hour later.

A house in Murrayfield Gardens remained sealed off by police as they continued their investigation.

Detectives have also asked residents to look around their gardens and the surrounding areas for anything out of the ordinary.

DI Dow added: "The investigation is wide-ranging, from interviewing members of the public to reviewing CCTV footage and conducting house-to-house and forensic activities.

"This is a 50-year-old loving dad who has suffered a fatal injury in a public street. It would have been a traumatic attack for him."

Crimestoppers have offered a £1000 reward for information that could help police solve the murder.
