Firefighters have tackled a blaze which burst through the roof of a block of flats.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Turnberry, Ayrshire at 11.46pm last night.

At the height of the incident around 40 firefighters were involved in fighting the blaze, which started in the top floor flat.

Two fire engines were still at the scene at 11am today.

Incident commander and local senior officer for Ayrshire, area manager Jim Scott said: "We are working with partner agencies, including our own fire Investigation team to bring the incident to a safe and satisfactory conclusion."

There was no early indication of any injuries.
