ONE of Edinburgh's busiest thoroughfares is thought to have become the first entire street in Scotland to offer free wi-fi.

George Street is taking part in a project which will run while the street functions as a Festival hub until early September.

Andy Neal, chief executive of Essential Edinburgh, which organised it with backing from City of Edinburgh Council said: "We don't know of anywhere else where an entire major street has offered free wifi in this way."

Councillor Frank Ross said: "It fits in with our ambitions to create maximum exposure through the internet and social messaging."
