Fun in the sun: Aberdonians are top Scots when it comes to enjoying a tan

Aberdonians are top of the Scots when it comes to enjoying a tan, according to a poll.

Aberdeen came second only to Wolverhampton in the UK for people who say they feel better when bronzed.

In a survey by Virgin Holidays, 67% reported that their mood is lifted by having a tan, compared to 75% in the West Midlands city.

Glasgow was the only other Scottish city to make the top 10, taking seventh place with 58%.

Virgin Holidays today trooped bikini and trunk-clad models through UK high streets, including Glasgow's Buchanan Street, to encourage shoppers to take advantage of its summer break deals by booking now.

Marketing director Andrew Shelton said: "Tanuary is our way of brightening people's moods after the festive break, but also gives the British public some incredible deals to help them get their mojo back."

The firm said it will this year promote responsible holiday tanning with a number of initiatives.

The survey of 2,000 people by One Poll was carried out between December 20 and 23.
