A FUND set up by two Scots cyclists in aid of a colleague before they were killed on a charity cycle ride has more than doubled, following publicity surrounding their deaths.

They were struck by a lorry near Newquay at about 8.30am and pronounced dead at the scene.

However, news of their deaths has sparked an outpouring of generosity online as well-wishers seek to pay tribute by making donations to the Kirsten Scott Trust, for which they had set out to raise £10,000.

Ms Scott, a colleague at AAM, died of cancer aged 25 in October 2011, just five weeks after being diagnosed with the disease.

Last night, the Virgin Money fundraising page established by Mr McMenigall and Mr Wallace stood at £22,225.13 following 366 donations, including a £2000 donation from the Martin Currie Charitable Foundation and £1000 from the Artemis Charitable Foundation.

Friends and loved ones also paid tribute to the men on the page.

One anonymous donor wrote: "I will miss Andrew dearly, he was a great friend over many years. I rode one of his favourite routes last night and fought through the tears. He was an inspiration to all who knew him."

Mr McMenigall was married with two daughters, and Mr Wallace also leaves behind a wife.

The lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail.
