We've had women's lib and gay pride marches.

Now the Gingers are to show their true colours by staging their first walk through the Old Town of Scotland's capital to gain better rights.

Militant redheads are to stage Scotland's first ginger rights march on August 10 after the City of Edinburgh Council granted permission for it.

The Ginger Pride Walk, expected to attract hundreds of people, is the brainchild of ginger Canadian comic and poet Shawn Hitchins.

Protester and redhead Linzi Roe, 22, from Cupar in Fife, said: "It was quite difficult growing up with ginger hair because at times it instantly made you a target for bullies. You were different and that's all they cared about."

Treasury Chief Secretary Danny Alexander, described as a ginger rodent by Labour MP Harriet Harman, said: "It's great to see ginger people gather to help raise awareness of bullying in a way that is fun and not too serious."
