GLASGOW is more likely than New York to have a white Christmas this year according to the latest odds, which come amid predictions that the UK could be facing the coldest winter since records began.

Glasgow and Manchester have been given odds of 2/1 for snow on Christmas Day this year by bookmakers Paddy Power, in comparison to 7/4 for New York, with 8/11 on Chicago the shortest price. London has been given odds of just 9/4 for a white Christmas.

The lowest temperature ever recorded in the UK was -27.2°C in Scotland in 1995, but the bookmaker is also giving odds of 10/11 that this record is broken by February 28th, 2014.

Reports have suggested Britain could be set for the coldest winter in 60 years.
