Grange Hill actor Terry Sue-Patt has died aged 50.

The actor found fame as Benny Green on the hit BBC children's show about a secondary school and went on to star in nearly 30 episodes between 1978 and 1982 alongside EastEnders star Todd Carty.

He was found dead at his flat in Walthamstow, north London, yesterday afternoon. Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.

His former co-stars paid tribute to him on Twitter.

Lee MacDonald, who played Zammo, said: "R.I.P Terry Sue-Patt the memories of our times together will never be forgotten! Love you FOREVER Xxxxxxxxxxxx"

Erkan Mustafa, who played Roland "Roly" Browning, tweeted: "Rip Terry Sue Patt aka Benny Green Grangehill legend you will be missed by true friends."

Later he added: "TerrySuePatt still cant believe it. Called your phone to hear your voice."

Robert Craig-Morgan, who starred as Justin Bennett, said: "So shocked on hearing my good friend and Grange Hill colleague, Terry Sue Patt has passed away. Such a beautiful soul. R.I.P Terry. Legend x."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were alerted at 12.42pm yesterday to concerns for the welfare of a man in Walthamstow.

"At 13.44pm, officers forced entry to a flat in Northcote Road and found the body of a man in his 50s inside the flat. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Next of kin have been informed. At this early stage the death is not believed to be suspicious."
