Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie and William Hague have spoken to victims of rape in war-torn Congo.

The Foreign Secretary and the campaigning star were told by two women they were viciously sexually assaulted while fleeing violence in the east of the republic.

They also met children as young as five in the Nzolo and Lac Vert village camps, who were sexually abused at the hands of the Congolese Army.

Mr Hague announced £205,288 of funding for Physicians for Human Rights – a group which works to prevent sexual violence in the war-torn east of the DRC. He and Jolie spoke to rape victims and doctors on a visit to the HEAL Africa hospital in Goma, which treats victims of sexual violence.

The pair also met community leaders and women's rights groups to raise awareness of war-zone rape.
