High note

YOUNG violinist Serena Whitmarsh's virtuoso performance has helped her win a major award at the Glasgow Music Festival.

Serena, 16, from Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, pictured here at Renfield St Stephens Church, was successful in the string solos, unaccompanied Bach (class 107). Each year around 7000 performers take part in the two-week festival. There are events for groups of almost any size and description, in addition to an extensive programme for solo performance.
