THE Southern General hospital has been praised for improving cleanliness.

A planned inspection by Healthcare Improvement Scotland found NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde had introduced a number of measures to drive up hygiene.

It follows a previous unannounced inspection, which was critical of some aspects including cleanliness. On one ward, a deep-cleaning schedule had been introduced. Of patients surveyed, 89% thought the wards were always clean, and 68% said equipment was always clean and in good repair. The report made no requirements to improve standards but listed three recommendations including improving communication between domestic and ward staff.

Rory Farrelly, NHSGGC's acute director of nursing said: "We are pleased that the report acknowledges the improvements we have made since their previous visit."
