HOUSE sales are expected to continue to rise over the next three months following an upturn in inquiries from new buyers, a survey has found.

The findings by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors' (RICS) shows prices are also likely to rise in the next 12 months.

The monthly housing market survey found 36% more surveyors predicted transaction levels would grow rather than fall in the next three months, while 64% more respondents expected sales to rise rather than fall in the next 12 months.

Interest from would-be buyers in Scotland rose sharply last month, with 71% more surveyors reporting rises rather than falls in new buyer inquiries.

Meanwhile, 36% more surveyors predict a rise rather than a fall in house prices over the next year.

Feedback suggests prices will go up by between 1% and 1.5%.

RICS Scotland director Sarah Speirs said: "There is still a very long way to go until we see a full-scale recovery, but green shoots are beginning to sprout."
