Investigation launched after body found next to beach

Police are investigating after a man's body was found by a beach.

Two members of the public made the discovery near Portobello Promenade in Edinburgh at around 6.30am.

Police Scotland said inquiries are under way.

The force said: "Police can confirm that the body of a man was found in the area of Portobello Promenade around 6.30am by two members of the public.

"Inquiries are at a very early stage and more information will be released when available."
