PEOPLE power has forced a supermarket giant to come up with a saver offer especially for island customers.

Angry shoppers complained Tesco's Clubcard Fuel Save scheme - which gives money off at the petrol pumps - missed out the Scottish islands where there are no Tesco fuel stations.

Mainland customers can get two pence off a litre of fuel for every £50 spent on in the supermarket. But the deal is useless in the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.

Islanders were annoyed at missing out and persuaded local store managers to urge head office to devise an alternative.

Tesco caved in to give island customers double clubcard points at the till which can be redeemed for shopping vouchers.

The islands' double points promotion runs in Stornoway, Lerwick and Kirkwall until Sunday, April 20.
