TWO serving prisoners have appeared in court charged with murdering a convicted child killer in jail.
Gary David Smith, 47, and Lee William Newell, 44, appeared before Worcester Magistrates yesterday, charged with the murder of Subhan Anwar.
Tests showed that Anwar, who was found dead by prison officers on Thursday, had a broken neck.
The two men are inmates at Long Lartin jail near Evesham in Worcestershire, where Anwar was serving a minimum of 23 years for murdering his partner's two-year-old daughter. The youngster suffered 107 injuries at his hands during weeks of torture.
Both men were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday.
