The new owner of Kai the dog, who became world famous after being abandoned at a train station, has described his decision to rehome him as a "life-changing experience".

Kai, a Shar-pei crossbreed was found alone at Ayr train station, Ayrshire, on January 2, where he had been left tied to a railing with a suitcase.

He was rescued by the Scottish SPCA, and after offers flooded in from all over the world, and he was taken in by self-employed hydralics engineer Ian Russell last month.

Mr Russell, 52, of Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, said he canno imagine life without the lovable dog.

Ian said: "I would say it's been a life-changing experience for both of us and it's sent my life in a whole new direction.

"The last thing I wanted after my Dalmatian Mica died was to get another dog, but taking in Kai has made me so happy and I'm so glad I was able to take him home.

"We're always together, everywhere I go he comes with me. He comes to work with me everyday in my van and I go all over the country so it's really good for him and he loves it.

"He's got so much energy and he's either running up the hills ahead of me or in a city centre, so he's getting the whole happy-dog experience.

"Everyday he's meeting new people. People keep telling me that I have to bring him with me as they want to see him.

"And everyone loves him when they meet him because he's so incredibly friendly - he's a real people pleaser."

Ian said Kai has adjusted to his new home really well and that the pair had become "practically stuck together like glue".

He said: "He's absolutely fabulous. He took a little bit of time to settle in but he's right at home now, and he knows this is his home too.

"We're practically stuck together like glue as he's always by my feet, but he also really does like to sleep.

"When he's in a deep sleep he's really not going to move anywhere for anyone.

"I've been so lucky to be able to adopt him and because he just fitted in to my life like a glove it feels like it was fate."
