THE independent school Glenalmond College in Perth has unveiled a £4 million development programme to be spent on improving the school's facilities and infrastructure.

Half of the total investment comes from the Bank of Scotland, with the remaining £2 million to be generated through donations and fundraising.

Half a million pounds has already been raised for the revamp, which will include a programme of upgrading classrooms, developing information technology infrastructure and new lecture and seminar facilities.

There will also be upgrading of the boarding accommodation and development of Glenalmond's sporting facilities.

Glenalmond recently announced the appointment of a new Warden or Head Teacher, Elaine Logan, who will succeed Gordon Woods, who will be retiring in July 2015.

Mr Woods commented, "This is a very exciting time for Glenalmond which will be an important phase in the school's development.

"The Teaching and Learning Project reinforces our commitment to academic improvement and this investment programme means that we will be able to underpin that academic development with upgraded facilities in the classrooms, on the sports pitches and in the boarding houses."

Ms Logan added: "This forward-looking approach is one of the things which most attracted me to Glenalmond and I am delighted to be able to make this announcement with Gordon Woods regarding the School's future plans which will enhance the School's outstanding reputation."

Glenalmond was founded in 1847 and has a 300-acre Perthshire campus.

It has 400 boarding and day pupils, with alumni including Lord Falconer, Robbie Coltrane and director Kevin Macdonald

It become a co-educational school in 1995.
