SANTA Claus's mailbag has revealed the presents children really want this year, with Lego and One Direction merchandise featuring high.

Royal Mail said it analysed letters from more than 200,000 children - before sending them on to the North Pole - and has compiled a list of the top 10 most requested toys.

The results show that the most popular toy is also one of the more traditional - Lego - while the newly released Xbox One only made ninth place.

Furby took third place, followed by Moshi Monsters, Monster High dolls and the Sofia the First talking doll.

The closing date to post letters to Santa via Royal Mail in time for Christmas has now passed.

Royal Mail spokesman Alex McConnell said: "Santa allowed us to take a peek at what children are asking for this year and it seems that they clearly still love making and building things."
