THE National Library of Scotland (NLS) wants to recruit Scotland's first Wikipedian.

An advert for the role of Wikipedian in residence has been issued as the library looks to expand its audience while enhancing published material on the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia.

The partnership between the NLS and Wikimedia UK will result in resources and knowledge from the collections at the Edinburgh-based institution being shared online.

Gill Hamilton, digital access manager at the National Library of Scotland, said: "This partnership with Wikipedia is a wonderful way for people around the world to learn about the history and culture of Scotland."

In addition to using library resources to contribute to Wikipedia, the successful candidate will also work with staff and the wider Scottish community to encourage them to develop under-represented topics on Wikipedia.
