INSTEAD of voting with their feet, people in Edinburgh have been voting with what they eat.

Cuckoo's Bakery has produced its first referendum poll results since asking its customers earlier this week to chose one of three cupcakes to show which side they will take in the debate.

The bakery is selling Yes cakes adorned with the Saltire, No versions with the Union Flag, as well as a third range of cupcakes with a question mark for undecided voters.

After three days, they say around 29% have gone for Yes cakes, 51% for No and 20% for Undecided.

Co-owner Graham Savage said: "It's been excellent for creating a debate between us and our customers, but also between the customers themselves.

"They look over at the other tables to see what others have chosen. "

By the time the referendum comes, they are hoping to have sold around 10,000 cakes to give a clear indication of which way they think the vote will go.
