Man dies after car plunges into water at a harbour

A man has died after a car plunged into the water at a harbour.

The vehicle entered the water at Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, at around 8.50am this morning, Police Scotland confirmed.

Road closures were put in place around the harbour and they are expected to remain for some time.

Police said the man's relatives have been informed but no further details will be released until formal identification has taken place.

A police spokeswoman said: "Inquiries into the incident are at an early stage and anyone who may have seen the vehicle prior to the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."
