ONE man was seriously injured in a multiple pile-up on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway yesterday afternoon.

Several others were injured but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening after the crash, which blocked the section of the Gretna to Stranraer road for around three hours.

Firefighters had to use cutting equipment to free the badly injured man who was taken 25 miles to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The crash involved an articulated lorry, a Suzuki Jeep, a Land Rover and trailer and a car and happened at the Twynholm bypass, about eight miles west of Castle Douglas.

The main route through the south-west was blocked by the crash. Police investigating the accident appealed for witnesses.
