A man has been charged in connection with a fatal street shooting.

Mohammed Abdi, 25, died in hospital after he was shot in the Willowbrae area of Edinburgh early on Sunday morning.

Mr Abdi, from Leith, was found lying close to a crashed people carrier in Abercorn Avenue just after 1am.

A police spokesman said: "A 29-year-old man is due to appear from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today."

Following his death it emerged that Mr Abdi had appeared in court on drugs charges earlier this month.

Detectives have linked the killing to incidents involving two groups of between six and 10 black men in the hours before Mr Abdi's death.

Officers have appealed for sightings of a blue VW Sharan in the Captain's Drive area.
